Please note: All events for 2023 are tentative, until a registration link is posted for sign ups, then the event is confirmed. Events need a minimum of 10 participants to run or they will be cancelled. Registration closes 3 weeks prior to the event date. Please plan accordingly.

January 2023

Jan. 28th: Sew your heart out 
Time: 10am – 4:00pm

Join us for a sewing program for Juniors and up. Girls will create several items using recycled materials while learning hand and machine sewing skills. You’ll be working on cooler totes, mini back packs and reusable lunch bags.

February

Feb 4: Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED at Camp Archbald
Time: 12:30 PM – 3:30 PM
The Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED blended learning course equips students to recognize and care for a variety of first aid breathing and cardiac emergencies involving adults, children, and infants. Under 18-year-old participants must currently be in 9th-12th grade (Senior –Ambassadors). Hosted by GSHPA Register Now

Feb 17th: Winter Weekend

Cost: $35 for the weekend, $10 for Saturday only
Levels: Open to all SoCA members. This is not geared towards troops, but they are welcome.

March 18: Art in Nature Badge Day at Camp Archbald
Time: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Ready, set, create! Juniors and Cadettes are invited to explore the outdoors, to observe the natural world through the lens of an artist, and then design and create their own works of art. By the end of this experience, participants will have learned how to become active observers, to identify a variety of sights, sounds and animals in nature, and will have fulfilled 4 out of 5 components of their Art in Nature Badge. March 25: JC Trail Adventure Badges at Camp Archbald
Time: 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Juniors and Cadettes are invited to come and enjoy a day exploring the beautiful trails at Camp Archbald! Girls will learn how to plan a day on the trails, getting the right gear, making a minimal impact on the environment and progressing to longer trail adventures in the future. March 31: CSA: Naturalist In Training at Camp Archbald
Time: Fri March 31 6:00 PM – Sun Apr 02, 11:30 AM
Girls in sixth through 12th grade are invited to Camp Archbald for Naturalist in Training! Your older girl will participate in an overnight learning experience where she’ll do some citizen science, nature journaling, new career discovery, and more. April 14: Going for Gold- BLISS & GIRLtopia Journey Weekend at Camp Archbald
Time: April 14 – 6:00 PM – Sun Apr 16, 11:00 AM
Seniors and Ambassadors who are interested in earning their Gold Award are invited to come and work on their BLISS and/or GIRLtopia journey while also learning about the Gold Award. Girls will learn how to fulfill their own dreams and how to help others reach their own dreams. We will also review the Gold Award process, things to consider while working on your Gold Award, and next steps towards earning the award. *Girls will need to complete a Take Action project after the event to complete their BLISS Journey. Also, please note that girls will need an additional Senior-level journey or have previously earned their Silver Award before starting on their Gold Award. Hosted by GSHPA. Register Now

April 15: Adventure Facilitator Training at Camp Archbald
Time: April 15 9:00 AM – Sun Apr 16, 5:00 PM
This training is for those that would like to facilitate the Climbing Wall, Zipline, and/or the Low Ropes courses at Camp Archbald. Your instructor will assign you a pass level at the end of the training. During the registration process you will choose to register for either:
– Low Ropes Only Training (April 15, 9 am -1 pm), Cost $35
– All Adventure Element Training, (April 15 & 16, 9 am – 5pm on both days), Cost $75 Please plan on bringing a bag lunch, lots of snacks, and plenty of water. You will need to wear closed-toe shoes and wear comfortable clothing. Hosted by GSHPA. Register Now

Join us for Earth Day at Camp Archbald. Give back to camp and the earth. You’ll learn about nature through a walk around camp, plant a tree and remember why it is important to take care of the earth.

This work day involves putting up canvas tents. This includes putting cots/mattresses in units, erecting the tents, and tarp rain covers. There is a task and opportunity for all ages, but older girls and adults are most needed for this event.

April 29: Summer Camp Property Tour at Camp Archbald
Time: 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM
Join GSHPA at Camp Archbald (CA) for an hour tour of the camp property! Learn where your camper may sleep during CA Summer Camp sessions and what activities they may participate in while at camp! Girls of all ages and their families are welcome! During the registration process you will be prompted to sign up for either: Session 1 at 1:00 pm on April 29 Session 2 at 2:15 pm on April 29. Apr 30: Archery 1 Practical Training Session at Camp Archbald
Time: 10:30 AM – 4:00 PM
Does your troop or service unit love archery? Plan ahead and obtain or renew your Archery 1 certification so you can facilitate archery activities at any of our four camp properties! The minimum age for this training is 15 years old. Certification is valid for three years from the date of course completion. Note: USA Archery has shifted there certification process to blended learning (online/in-person) training. May 6: STEM in The Outdoors at Camp Archbald

Join Girl Scouts in the Heart of PA for a full day of outdoor science adventure! During this event, Girl Scouts will be able to hang out with female leaders in science and technology, explore a variety of STEM careers, and enjoy a range of hands-on activities while enjoying the beauty of the outdoors! Come to Camp Archbald for a leader retreat! Spend the weekend at camp recharging. Meet fellow Girl Scout and SoCA volunteers/leaders. Choose from planned activities geared to gain preliminary camp skills like fire building or camp property rental information or instead you can relax and enjoy quiet time and meditation.

June 1-2: NEPA Gives
Time:7pm Thur – 7pm Fri
Location: Online at nepagives.org
Purpose: Annual fundraiser for SoCA!
SoCA asks for your support for raising money for Camp Archbald scholarships during NEPA Gives 2023. Consider giving an online donation during the campaign time from 7pm, June 1st to 7pm June 2nd. Every penny counts, help send a girl to camp!

June 3-4: Stream Girls
