2020

Complete 10 tasks about Camp Archbald and e-mail or mail the request back for your special edition girl-designed 100th anniversary patch! Our patch was designed by Maddy O. from troop 50774! The boxes include everything you need to complete the activities and takes an average of 2.5 hours to complete, with 3+ hours for younger girls.

*July 1 – Oct. 1 – Traveling Library Display
Find yourself in a library all the time, or decided you haven’t been in a long time and need to go? Now is the perfect time to head to your local library to check out SoCA’s 100th anniversary display of Camp Archbald memorabilia. Rotating all over NEPA, the display showcases old photographs, camp guides, gear, post cards and more! The oldest item dates back to 1930! See below for the list of libraries and when they will be hosting the display. Send us a picture at centuryteamforsoca@gmail.com of you visiting the display! To further celebrate the 100 year anniversary of CA, we will be putting out a ‘zine comprised of submissions from our camp community: you folks! We are asking that you submit drawings, poems, stories – anything that reminds you of camp that you want to share with everyone! Camp songs are not allowed. You can submit to Noah Penny at 423 Walnut Street Apt. 218 Harrisburg, PA 17101 or emailed to noahpenny3@gmail.com with the subject line “Zine Submission.”

August 8: Kayak for Camp – 10am -4pm
Location: Susquehanna River between White’s Ferry to Appletree boat launches
Cost: $50.00/single kayak, $70.00/tandem or canoe, and $30.00 to bring your own craft. In addition to the above rental/transport fee, a donation to SoCA is strongly encouraged. Download your pledge sheet here or ask for details upon reservation.

August 29 and 30: Climbing wall/zip line and low ropes facilitator training
Location: Camp Archbald
Cost: $100.00 per Climbing Wall/ Zipline WITH Low Ropes
$100.00 per Climbing Wall/ Zipline WITHOUT Low Ropes or $50.00 per Low Ropes Only

Hosted by GSHPA. This training is for those who would like to facilitate the climbing wall/zip line and low ropes course at Camp Archbald. This is a site-specific training and is not applicable to other facilities. Training will run from approximately 9am-5pm on both days. Please plan on bringing a bag lunch, lots of snacks, and plenty of water. You will need to wear closed toe shoes and warm/comfortable clothing.

The training for the climbing wall/zip line will take a day and a half. You must stay for the duration of the training. Low ropes training will be in the afternoon on the 30th, after the completion of climbing wall/zip line training.

Note: By attending the climbing wall/zip line and/or low ropes facilitation training, you are committing to volunteering at council-led climbing events at Camp Archbald on the following dates: November 1st 2020 and April 10th 2021. If circumstances prevent you from volunteering on one or both of these dates, you will be charged $20 per event that you cannot attend.

Our big in person event will be rescheduled for September 18, 2021, but we will still be offering a live viewing at camp as we raise the 100th anniversary flag. Watch from your homes this year, and join us in person in 2021.

Get away from life for a weekend at camp. Be outside in the beautiful fall colors and busy yourself with activities or relax for a weekend outdoors. Open to SoCA members and their families. This event is not geared towards troops. Some meals will be provided with a cost. Exact menu and cost to be determined at a later date. Save the date for now, and get ready to return to camp!

Activity day for girls Juniors to Ambassadors. Girls will be completing the new Climbing Adventure badges. Activities include the climbing tower, low ropes, team-building and more.

*November 15: Celebrate Women Veterans and what they can teach you about their service in the military. Registration coming soon.

A do over from 2020. All are welcome! Come out to camp for traditional camp activities such as swimming, boating and arts and crafts. Find people who went to camp the same years as you for our decade photos, and spend the evening with a campfire and s’mores. Volunteers needed to help run activities. Want to help or have questions?
